Tasks
SI BIS provided a hardware and software platform for an SAP for Banking solution that met the bank’s requirements for performance and flexibility and enabled further upgrades.
The history of successful cooperation between SI BIS and PJSC UkrSibbank dates back to 2004 when the bank needed to set up IT infrastructure for its ERP system. Criteria
The hardware and software system configuration offered by SI BIS was based on consolidation of servers and data storage through deployment of IBM hardware platform. Server consolidation was provided through creation of dynamic logical partitions (D-LPAR) within two IBM eServer p670 systems, and data storage was consolidated in two IBM TotalStorage DS4500 systems.
The company’s main problem was lack of server room space, which made addition of new hardware impossible. A variety of solutions was suggested, the most optimal being to replace two IBM eServer p670 servers with more compact and powerful IBM System p570 servers with Power6 processors. Each server had 16 processors running at 4.2 GHz each.
The bank’s all integrated applications were installed on IBM eServer p670, and they needed to be migrated to the new servers first for the bank’s business continuity to be unaffected by the hardware swap. It was another difficulty of the project—all dismantling and installation were to be carried over the two holiday days off, during which the Bank’s activity was at its minimum.
Within 12 hours, SI BIS experts dismantled IBM eServer p670 server and installed the new IBM System p570 ones, and then PJSC UkrSibbank specialists installed and configured all apps, including SAP for Banking, without any data loss.

Migration of applications to a more powerful server provided an almost 7-fold boost in processing power. In addition, space was made in server room, energy consumption optimised, an air-conditioning system was installed, which is crucial for any modern data centre.
The deployment of this solution once again confirmed that IBM hardware was a reliable platform for banking systems of any kind. IBM System p servers enable quick adaptation to the changing market conditions and help optimise IT infrastructure costs without compromising data security.
