About Client

Smart-Holding is one of the largest industrial and investment groups in Ukraine, which unites companies with common strategic goals and business principles. Smart-Holding is focused on industrial sectors that are key to the country’s economy. Its companies invest in mining, metallurgical, oil&gas, banking, agriculture, retail, shipbuilding, and real estate sectors and participate in other business projects as portfolio investors.

Tasks

Primarily, PJSC Smart-Holding needed to modernize its obsolete hardware that could no longer cope with the multi-fold increase in workload. Other objectives included optimisation of hardware computing, as well as that of the entire IT infrastructure. Automation of IT infrastructure management was a task of its own, especially when it came to automation of account creation and locking.

Criteria

A Microsoft Hyper-V-based solution with Failover Cluster was chosen as a virtualization platform. System Center 2012 product line provided extensive functionality for IT infrastructure management.

For process automation, we used System Center 2012 Service Manager and System Center 2012 Orchestrator.

The following Microsoft products were integrated into the infrastructure:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager.
  • Microsoft System Center 2012 Operations Manager.
  • Microsoft System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager.
  • Microsoft System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager.
  • Microsoft System Center 2012 Orchestrator.
  • Microsoft System Center 2012 Service Manager.
  • Microsoft System Center Updates Publisher 2011.
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2.

Results

After SI BIS completed the project, Smart-Holding received the following results:

1. Hyper-V role server cluster management with System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012.
2. Microsoft System Center 2012 Operation Manager-based monitoring of:

— physical servers’ memory, disk space, and processor utilization in Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V role
—- MS Active Directory
— file servers

3. Infrastructure management with Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager:

— PC protection with Endpoint Protection
— Windows Server 2008 R2 update
— Hardware and software inventory tracking

4. MS SQL Server 2008 R2 archiving with System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager.
5. Automated registration of new employees with System Center 2012 Service Manager and System Center 2012 Orchestrator.
6. Automated employee account locking with System Center 2012 Service Manager and System Center 2012 Orchestrator.
7. Automated creation of new preset-based virtual machines with System Center 2012 Service Manager, System Center 2012 Orchestrator, and System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager.
