About Client

Established in 1925, PJSC Farmak is among Ukraine’s oldest pharmaceutical companies. Its headquarters are in Kiev, Ukraine. Farmak has its own R&D complex, where it conducts scientific and technical research for manufacturing of new drug samples.

Tasks

Traditional telephony became obsolete for PJSC Farmak at some stage of business development. The pharmaceutical company thus decided to build a modern, reliable, universal, and scalable communication platform. However, it was also necessary to migrate the existing users without disrupting the company’s business processes.

Criteria

To tackle the project’s main objective, Cisco Unified Communications Manager 9.X platform was chosen. It took over all telephone call routing within the corporate network of the central office in Kiev and regional branches in the cities of Kharkiv, Shostka, and Zatoka.

Cisco Unified Presence Server (CUPS) presence monitoring subsystem was deployed for indication of subscriber availability and possible ways of communication. Also, Cisco Unity Connection voicemail system was installed. A wide range of Cisco 79XX, 69XX, 78XX, 39XX, DX series IP phones and Cisco SX20 video terminals were used as user terminals.

In addition, the initial stage of video conferencing system (VCS) setup was completed. The purpose of the VCS was to reduce the time and financial costs for holding Farmak top manager meetings. During this stage, facilities for the communication between remote offices and locations were deployed. Going forward, we plan to implement unified management for elements of communication: telephony, video communication, and instant messaging, including those with terminals of remote employees. The solution will be based on Cisco Collaboration Edge architecture. Additionally, secure connection to the video conferencing network for the company’s partners will be created.

Results

A unified system for communication between the company’s various geographically remote locations in four cities of Ukraine was deployed. The system encompasses VoIP, instant messaging, video calls, voicemail, and interactive voice response (IVR).

The solution helped boost the company employees’ performance regardless of the geographical location of its regional offices.

Later, additional services will be introduced as a part of the project. The next project stage involves a deeper integration of Farmak video and audio infrastructure with the Cisco Telepresence system.
