Tasks

The project was focused on improving performance of the bank’s entire infrastructure while ensuring continuous operation of key business processes of the bank.

Criteria

PJSC Piraeus Bank technical experts considered a variety of solutions for IT infrastructure modernisation and creation of a backup site based on the requirements determined by the bank’s strategic and tactical development plans. Based on the requirements put forward by the Piraeus Bank experts, the solution incorporating the best backup data centre building practices offered by SI BIS was chosen.

The project also involved creation of a fall-back virtual infrastructure for the bank. IBM System eX5 servers were chosen to ensure continuous operation of the B2 core banking system. The solution also included IBM HS22 blade servers, designed to provide Citrix-based virtualisation.

The physical standby servers providing redundancy for banking applications were migrated to the backup site.

Migration of a certain part of hardware to the backup location and modernisation of the main data centre required changes to the data storage network, which were made without interruption to the banking services operation.

The bank’s core activities use various applications that have different performance requirements. After analysing the list of applications and their functional requirements provided by the customer, SI BIS experts suggested using multiple hardware and software methods for data replication between the two data centres.
