The project involved provision of efficient data management, software and hardware state monitoring, etc. for the existing company’s IT infrastructure and coordination of the software and hardware system operation.

After a thorough analysis of the company’s business processes and specialized software products offered on the market, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager was chosen as the main platform for the comprehensive solution.

IT infrastructure of Kviza-Trade LLC (now Foodmarket Ltd) was based on IBM System p RISC servers running IBM AIX operating system with the SAP ERP system and Oracle DBMS installed. The infrastructure for storage of the company’s core databases included IBM System Storage DS4700 and DS4800 disk storage systems and IBM DS4200 and DS4100 auxiliary storage. The company also had a fleet of x86 servers that ran many private business applications and an IBM TS3310 tape storage.

The project involved deployment of several Tivoli software modules, each responsible for certain functionality:

  • IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition—information protection, storage management in a distributed environment
  • IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for ERP—configurable data backup
  • IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Databases—continuous backup for Oracle DBMS databases
  • IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Storage Area Networks—efficient network management
  • IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for System Backup and Recovery—provides multiple backup options, including full system, volume group, file system, file, directory and logical volume backups.

On the final stage of the project, Kviza-Trade engineers ran system-wide tests together with SI BIS specialists. On test rigs, mock restoration of all important IT subsystems after

The project provided Kviza-Trade with a unified hardware and software infrastructure for fast and reliable data backup and recovery. Backup and recovery speeds were improved (the data being transmitted via SAN channels), the tape storage operation was reorganized, the monitoring of backup availability simplified, and tape storage and recycling procedures improved.
