Tasks

Expanding the range of products available at points of sale and in the light of ever-growing volume of customer data, Fudmerezha LLC (Velyka Kyshenya and Velmart hypermarket chains) needed to reconsider its requirements as to IT infrastructure. Under the given circumstances, trouble-free operation of the system based on the obsolete Power 5 processor couldn’t be guaranteed, not to mention that the IBM DS4700/DS4800-based storage system used at the time couldn’t handle the amount of incoming information.

Criteria

SI BIS experts were invited to tackle these problems and comprehensively upgrade Fudmerezha’s hardware and software platforms. Based on the results of the initial assessment of the hardware installed at its current workload, a decision was made about a comprehensive hardware and software modernisation including:

  • storage system infrastructure revamp by switching to a high-performance platform based on Hitachi Unified Storage VM (virtualisation of existing storage system with the migration of data to HUS VM)
  • Addition of a more powerful Power 730 Express (8231-E2D) system based on the latest Power 7 processor technology to the existing IBM server fleet.

Solutions

IT Infrastructure Modernization

Results

Combined with expansion of storage capacity, modernisation of hardware with a more powerful IBM server enhanced the company’s capabilities without any damage or potential threat to the stability and longevity of the system.
